CBS Consumer Products is brewing up Klingon Warnog, the first officially licensed Star Trek beer in the United States.
Tin Man Brewing Co., a micro brewery in Evansville, Ind., will produce the beer, which is set to hit stores in the U.S. and Canada later this year. The company is partnering on the product with Federation of Beer, the makers of Vulcan Ale.
Klingon Warnog will incorporate rye malt into a modern Dunkelweizen grain bill, creating a flavor profile that is both familiar and unique, according to Tin Man Brewing Co. Warnog's aroma is predominantly mild banana and clove produced by the German wheat yeast, supported by subtle sweet malt character from the use of Munich malt.
The beer will receive a preview during the Nightclub & Bar Convention and Trade Show in Las Vegas on March 25.
Warnog first appeared in the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" Season 6 episode "Rightful Heir." Later, in the "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" Season 6 episode "Sons and Daughters," the beverage was enjoyed by Gen. Martok aboard the Klingon warship Rotarran.
Federation of Beer plans to release other Star Trek-themed drinks, including the franchise's most notorious beverage, Romulan Ale.
Vulcan Ale, which was released in Canada in 2013, is a hand-crafted Irish red ale, and it was produced in a collaboration between Delancey Direct and Harvest Moon Brewery Co.
