DS9 Actor In Search For New Kidney

Aron Eisenberg reveals he’ll soon return to dialysis after 30 years

It may take a few years, but “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” actor Aron Eisenberg says he’s not discouraged by the fact that he has to look for a new kidney some three decades after his last transplant. The 46-year-old actor, who appeared in 47 episodes of DS9 as the Ferengi Nog — the nephew of Armin Shimerman’s Quark, who would later become a Starfleet officer — broke the news to Facebook followers Wednesday. “It is with a heavy heart that I make this post,” Eisenberg wrote. “As many of you know, I had a kidney transplant almost 30 years ago, and that opportunity has given me …

Orion Slave Girl, Batgirl Yvonne Craig Dies, 78

She broke many barriers for women in television and film

Yvonne Craig was more than just a green-painted Orion slave girl in a classic episode of “Star Trek.” She was an actress who broke barriers across television, including being the first to portray Batgirl. Craig died Tuesday in Pacific Palisades, California. She was 78. Craig is best known to Star Trek fans for her role as Marta, the Orion slave woman who would eventually try to seduce and then kill Kirk in the episode “Whom Gods Destroy.” But her involvement with Star Trek goes all the way back to the beginning, according to …

Spinning Off Convention Good For Trek-Based Canadian Town

More than 500 people show up for Vul-Con in Alberta, officials say

Spock Days is not the only Star Trek event in the small town of Vulcan anymore. For the first time, the Alberta municipality that capitalizes on its loose association with Spock’s home world has spun off its annual convention, separating it from its annual Spock Days celebration. And it’s a success. Some 500 people showed up for the end-of-July convention — which featured guests like “Battlestar Galactica’s” Richard Hatch, “Star Trek: Enterprise’s” Gary Graham, character actor Tony Todd and “Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home’s” Catherine Hicks — paying between $75 and $125 in …

The ongoing Star Trek series has also featured captains and ships from other spinoffs

Perth Mint in Australia is continuing its line of Star Trek-featured collector coins, this time focused on the late Leonard Nimoy and his original series character Spock. The mint has released a new coin, licensed by CBS Studios Inc., that shows Nimoy’s Spock giving the Vulcan salute while wearing the IDIC medallion. IDIC, by the way, stands for “infinite diversity in infinite combinations.” The coin is 99.9 percent pure silver and will be limited to a pressing of just 5,000 coins, according to the mint’s website. Former Trek Stuntwoman Fights For Benefits

Actors union claims Leslie Hoffman worked on Trek fan series while collecting disability

What is the definition of work? For Hollywood’s primary acting union, the Screen Actors Guild, it’s simply showing up close to where something is being filmed. At least that’s what the union has claimed when it comes to Leslie Hoffman, a retired stuntwoman whose career started in the 1970s and included a handful of “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” and “Star Trek: Voyager” episodes. SAG Pension & Health Plans, which handle not only pension and health insurance but other services like disability, abruptly stopped paying Hoffman her $981.50 per month disability and is demanding repay …

7 Cameos We’d Like To See In ‘Star Trek 3’

William Shatner? Patrick Stewart? Connor Trinneer? Who should stop by the new movie?

The last two Star Trek films were given a direct sendoff by the mere presence of Leonard Nimoy, who played the character of Mr. Spock for nearly 50 years. But with his sad passing earlier this year — and reports that he was not going to pop up in this film anyway — fans are still hankering for a chance to see a familiar face from the past grace “Star Trek 3,” especially as it’s released in time for the 50th anniversary of the Trek franchise. So who should it be? Someone from the original series? Maybe someone from one of the spinoffs? Possibly a face from a fan series? Here …

Terry Farrell: I Wanted To Stay On ‘Deep Space Nine’

Jadzia Dax actress opens up about what led to her departure, and how it was shared with the crew

By the time fans were getting ready for the seventh season of “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” it was clear this would be the last. Because of that, it was a shock for many to find out that Terry Farrell and her character of Jadzia Dax would not be a part of it. Reports of Farrell’s departure centered on the extremely vague “failed contract talks,” and it seemed even showrunner Ira Steven Behr had no idea why he suddenly had to create a new character to replace Jadzia. Farrell recently opened up about what happened behind the scenes of those negotiations with ShowbizJunkies r …

Should Star Trek TV Series Take Cues From ‘Fargo’?

A Vox columnist has an interesting take on how small-screen Trek could return

There have been plenty of ideas for what a new Star Trek television series should be like, yet CBS Television — which holds the boob tube rights to the franchise — seems no closer than before in returning Trek to television after a 10-year absence. But that hasn’t stopped even new suggestions from coming forward, including one new column from Vox contributor Todd VanDerWerff that has been making the rounds online. The concept? Borrow from the success of shows like “American Horror Story,” “True Detective” and “Fargo,” and make the next Trek television series an anthology se …
