San Francisco Artist Wins Enterprise In Space Contest

Entry is first major step into launching an 8-foot orbiter into space

The future of space flight may be beginning with a conceptual artist out of San Francisco. Stanley von Medvey — an amateur astronomer, professional artist and member of the National Space Society — designed the winning concept for the NSS’ Enterprise In Space contest. Medvey outlasted two rounds of judging to win the grand prize and now will have to sit back and wait while the NSS tries to raise the funds to construct and then launch the orbiter already set to carry the name “Enterprise.” Organizers say it could cost as much as $39 million to make the project a reality. …
