So Who Is That Other Executive Producer On New Trek Series?

Bryan Fuller was not the only one added to the mix. Heather Kadin is on board, too

She was lost in the shuffle a bit when the news broke Tuesday that Bryan Fuller was named the co-creator and showrunner for the upcoming Star Trek series. But Heather Kadin is not someone fans should overlook.

In fact, Kadin will add Star Trek among the hit shows she’s already executive producing for networks like Fox and CBS, all thanks to her job as co-president of the production shingle Kurtzman shares with Roberto Orci, K/O Paper Products. That resume includes shows like “Scorpion” and “Limitless” on CBS, and “Sleepy Hollow” on Fox — all of which have been successes for those networks. She also was involved with the short-lived series “Matador,” which appeared on Robert Rodriguez’s English-language channel geared to Latinos, El Rey Network.

Kadin got her start on ABC, where she first hooked up with Kurtzman, Orci and future Star Trek director J.J. Abrams on his popular series “Alias.” She later jumped to Warner Bros. Television where she spearheaded television development, and then would work with the Abrams/Orci/Kurtzman team again for the critically acclaimed Fox series “Fringe.”

She also worked as an executive producer for two television movies last year — “Tales from the Dark Side” and “Exit Strategy.”

Kurtzman himself has made his name huge in television, after starting on “Xena: Warrior Princess” in 1999. His trail of success on television begins with “Alias” in 2001, and continued through shows like “Fringe,” “Transformers Prime” and the successful “Hawaii Five-O” on CBS. But like many producers, he’s had some false starts too. Shows like “New Day” and “Locke & Key” never got off the ground past the pilot stage.

Still, this team has proven itself in both franchise resurrections and science-fiction. And with the new Star Trek series coming next January, they’ll have a chance to do both at the same time.
