The Alberta town of Vulcan has welcomed many Star Trek guests to its humble Canadian home over the years, but now is taking a big look at “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.”
Nana Visitor and Rene Auberjonois, who played the couple Maj. Kira Nerys and Security Chief Odo, will be the special guests at Spock Days, set for June 13-15.
“It is their first time to Spock Days,” Devan Daniels, the town’s tourism administrator, told the Vulcan Advocate. “I’m very excited to have some people from ‘Deep Space Nine.'”
Tickets for the annual convention go on sale March 1, and bring visitors to the small town that was known as Vulcan long before “Star Trek” came into existence, but later capitalized on the name to bring much-needed tourism dollars.
Visitor most recently lent her voice to the Fox series “Family Guy,” and in recent years has appeared on ABC’s “Castle,” NBC’s “Grimm,” Starz’s “Torchwood” and Syfy’s “Battlestar Galactica.”
Auberjonois has been very busy in the voice acting industry in recent years, including work on “Pound Puppies” and “Archer.” He’s also made guest appearances on “NCIS,” “Warehouse 13,” “Criminal Minds” and was a regular on “Boston Legal,” which also starred Star Trek alum William Shatner.
Auberjonois has been nominated for three Emmys for “CBS Library” in 1980, “Benson” in 1984 and “The Practice” in 2001. He won a Grammy in 1991 for his work on the recording of “The Little Mermaid.”
Tickets for Spock Days start at $70 (Canadian), with details about packages available at VulcanTourism.com.
The town of Vulcan has just less than 2,000 people, with its primary sources of income tourism (because of its unofficial Star Trek connection), and agriculture. It’s a little more than 80 miles south of Calgary.
