Trek’s Prime Universe ‘Closed For Business’?

Latest rumor suggests new series will take place in AbramsVerse

There might have been a little bit of truth to some of the gossip last month about the new Star Trek series planned for CBS All Access. A source tells 1701News that the series, set to debut in January on the subscription streaming service, could be a prequel of sorts, taking place after Capt. Kirk and his voyages of the USS Enterprise. With one catch — it won’t be in the prime universe of Star Trek pre-2009, but instead set in the new universe brought to us by J.J. Abrams. “There is apparently a contingent within CBS that views the prime universe closed for business,” said …

‘Deep Space Nine’ Turns 20: A Look Back

Star Trek series set on a space station around Bajor remembered

Rick Berman and the late Michael Piller didn’t have to look far to find inspiration for another Star Trek series. Saddam Hussein had set oil wells in Kuwait on fire as he withdrew as part of Operation Desert Storm, and both the allied American forces along with the Kuwaiti people were left to pick up the pieces. That’s what Berman and Piller would do — create a space station as part of a brutal occupation, and join it just as the occupying forces abandon ship. “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” premiered 20 years ago Thursday, part of an original syndicated lineup that first too …

Nimoy Died On Non-Speaking Terms With Shatner

New book reveals the Trek-created friendship had crumbled in months before actor’s passing

William Shatner is shedding some new light on the relationship he shared with “Star Trek” co-star Leonard Nimoy leading up to his death, and apparently, it wasn’t on good terms. In his new new book, “Leonard: My Fifty-Year Friendship With a Remarkable Man,” Shatner says that friendship had come apart in the months leading up to Nimoy’s February 2015 death. Shatner’s book isn’t expected to hit shelves until Feb. 16, but the British tabloid The Sun has shared some of …

Australian Mint Offers Spock Collector’s Coin

The ongoing Star Trek series has also featured captains and ships from other spinoffs

Perth Mint in Australia is continuing its line of Star Trek-featured collector coins, this time focused on the late Leonard Nimoy and his original series character Spock. The mint has released a new coin, licensed by CBS Studios Inc., that shows Nimoy’s Spock giving the Vulcan salute while wearing the IDIC medallion. IDIC, by the way, stands for “infinite diversity in infinite combinations.” The coin is 99.9 percent pure silver and will be limited to a pressing of just 5,000 coins, according to the mint’s website. Each coin will come in Star Trek packaging with a numbered c …

7 Cameos We’d Like To See In ‘Star Trek 3’

William Shatner? Patrick Stewart? Connor Trinneer? Who should stop by the new movie?

The last two Star Trek films were given a direct sendoff by the mere presence of Leonard Nimoy, who played the character of Mr. Spock for nearly 50 years. But with his sad passing earlier this year — and reports that he was not going to pop up in this film anyway — fans are still hankering for a chance to see a familiar face from the past grace “Star Trek 3,” especially as it’s released in time for the 50th anniversary of the Trek franchise. So who should it be? Someone from the original series? Maybe someone from one of the spinoffs? Possibly a face from a fan series? Here …

A Shatner Journey Probably Only Shatner Can Take

He’s 84, yet the Star Trek icon is ready to take to the road on a new motorcycle

Either it’s a documentary, or a very long advertisement. Either way, William Shatner proves he’s not ready to retire just yet as he begins a road journey June 23 from Chicago to Los Angeles on his specially designed, futuristic “trike” motorcycle. “I am taking another step into the unknown,” the actor said in a statement, according to Daily Journal. Shatner is expected to ride a steampunk-style motorcycle he developed with Illinois-based American Wrench over an eight-day stretch with stops in St. Louis; Kansas City, Mo.; Oklahoma City; Amarillo, Texas; Albuquerque; Flagsta …

Kim Friedman is the woman behind several ‘DS9,’ ‘Voyager’ episodes

Unless you’re a loyal follow of social media platforms like Instagram, you might not be familiar with Crazy Jewish Mom. But it turns out Crazy Jewish Mom not only is real, she isn’t a nobody either. In fact, according to the website Heavy, she’s former “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” and …
