It’s Time For Fan-Films To Take A Stand

Whether you’re for or against, stop hiding and weigh in

I haven’t exactly been a dedicated follower of fan-films, but as someone who is passionate about Star Trek fandom, I would follow their progress occasionally, and give kudos when kudos were due. But since CBS Corp. and Paramount Pictures filed a massive copyright infringement suit against fan-film producers Axanar Productions and Alec Peters, I have learned far more about fan-films than I thought was even possible to absorb. And a lot of it is good — these are fans, after all, many times playing Star Trek with a YouTube audience. Even Vic Mignogna will admit his “Star Trek Con …

Whoopi Goldberg Making First Ever Trek Con Appearance

Oscar-winning actress heads to Las Vegas for Creation Entertainment event

What does it take to get Whoopi Goldberg to a Star Trek convention? How about a chance to celebrate the 50th anniversary in Las Vegas? That was enough for the comedian and actress, who has signed up for her first-ever convention at Creation Entertainment’s Las Vegas Convention beginning Aug. 3. “Whoopi is beloved by Star Trek fans for her recurring role as Guinan in ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation” and two Star Trek feature films,” according to a bio published by Creation. “Appearing at her very first Star Trek convention, audiences worldwide have made Ms. Goldberg one of t …

Former ‘Voyager’ Actress Jennifer Lien Arrested

Reportedly exposed herself to children, adding to a long criminal record

It’s almost impossible to recognize Jennifer Lien these days. She’s put on some pounds, seems to wear no makeup and has a close-cropped haircut. But someone who is recognizing her quite a bit lately are the police in Harriman, Tennessee. Lien, who played Kes in three seasons of “Star Trek: Voyager,” was still sitting in a Tennessee jail Tuesday after reportedly exposing herself to three children following an argument with a neighbor. Lien apparently didn’t like how the neighbor was raising her kids and started exposing both her breasts and her butt to the children, acc …

Trek Community Celebrates Supreme Court Marriage Decision

Twitter came alive this week not just for ‘Star Trek 3,’ but for gay marriage too

Not wanting to be upstaged by the first week of filming of “Star Trek 3,” the U.S. Supreme Court decided to dominate the news cycle this past week with a couple of key rulings. While one was huge for the Obama administration and his legacy piece, the Affordable Care Act, the other had an impact on many other Americans. In a split 5-4 vote, the Supreme Court said states not allowing same-sex marriage was a violation of the 14th Amendment. It was a widely expected win, but still didn’t mute the jubilation celebrated by many in the LGBT community, and its supporters. That incl …

Trekdom Celebrates Gay Marriage Supreme Court Ruling

George Takei, Zachary Quinto among those expressing pride

After months of waiting. the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday struck down key provisions of two laws that had plagued gay civil rights proponents for many years. And the Star Trek community — where there is infinite diversity in infinite combinations — celebrated. “Today marks a watershed moment in history and a tremendous victory for the principle of equality,” actor George Takei from the original “Star Trek” series told his followers on Facebook. “The 5-4 decision by our Supreme Court striking down DOMA affirms the universality of love — the desire of all people not …

So About That Borg Alcove …

Jeri Ryan explains the large conversation piece in her on-the-market mansion

At first glance, the Borg alcove in Jeri Ryan’s activity room in her house looks completely out of place. But then again, even a house with such distinct French connections as the mansion she put up for sale in March must have a little bit of Star Trek, in it, right? Ryan started decorating her house even before she and her husband Christophe Émé were married in 2007. “Christophe and I looked at literally hundreds of magazines and books about France, and specifically Provence, p …

Jeri Ryan Puts $7M Mansion Up For Sale

It comes complete with a Borg alcove in the game room

Jeri Ryan wants to move out of her Encino, California, house more than 15 years after buying it. And the only complaint we have about the $6.999 million asking price? What wasn’t it $7.9 million? Ryan, who played Seven of Nine in “Star Trek: Voyager,” is listing her home, which looks so much like a French-style estate, you’d think Capt. Picard’s family lived there instead. To create as much authenticity as possible, Ryan brought in many elements from Europe, according to the Los Angeles Times, including some that are hundreds of years old. Her stone fireplace, for e …

Lien Starting To Make Amends After Legal Trouble

Former ‘Voyager’ actor pays restitution to police department for one mishap

Jennifer Lien is still seeking mental health treatment after some recent run-ins with law enforcement in Tennessee, and has now settled up at least one of those legal clashes. Lein, who played Kes in “Star Trek: Voyager,” paid nearly $2,300 in restitution to the Harriman Police Department in Roane County, Tennessee, earlier this week. The money reimburses the police department for damage Lien allegedly made on a police cruiser during an incident in April 2015. But that won’t be the end of that particular case, however. “She paid her restitution, and the state agreed to …

Exploring Bryan Fuller’s Trek Resume, Part 1

How might the writer’s past episodes influence the future?

If there’s anyone who doesn’t need a resume handy when applying for a job running a new Star Trek series, it’s certainly Bryan Fuller. Whether it’s “Dead Like Me,” “Hannibal” and even his interesting take on turning “The Munsters” comedy from the 1960s into a 21st century drama called “Mockingbird Lane,” Fuller certainly has paid his dues when it comes to television. But he also has an extensive writing resume for Star Trek as well, primary with “Star Trek: Voyager,” where 14 of the 16 total episodes he had a primary writing credit came with Capt. Janeway and her valiant crew s …
