Trek’s Prime Universe ‘Closed For Business’?

Latest rumor suggests new series will take place in AbramsVerse

There might have been a little bit of truth to some of the gossip last month about the new Star Trek series planned for CBS All Access. A source tells 1701News that the series, set to debut in January on the subscription streaming service, could be a prequel of sorts, taking place after Capt. Kirk and his voyages of the USS Enterprise. With one catch — it won’t be in the prime universe of Star Trek pre-2009, but instead set in the new universe brought to us by J.J. Abrams. “There is apparently a contingent within CBS that views the prime universe closed for business,” said …

Trek TV: Network Way, Not Netflix Way

CBS confirms viewers won’t be able to binge-watch Star Trek right away

CBS Corp. might be jumping into a new medium by launching an original series on a Netflix-like platform. But that doesn’t mean CBS All Access is turning into Netflix. Instead, when Trekkies and subscribers tune in to the new Star Trek series in January, they won’t get to binge every episode over a long weekend. In fact, they’ll have to wait a full week before they can see the next episode. And then a full week after that to see the third. And then a full … you get what we mean. Les Moonves, the chairman of CBS, has confirmed what many television observers knew already …

Exploring Bryan Fuller’s Trek Resume, Part 1

How might the writer’s past episodes influence the future?

If there’s anyone who doesn’t need a resume handy when applying for a job running a new Star Trek series, it’s certainly Bryan Fuller. Whether it’s “Dead Like Me,” “Hannibal” and even his interesting take on turning “The Munsters” comedy from the 1960s into a 21st century drama called “Mockingbird Lane,” Fuller certainly has paid his dues when it comes to television. But he also has an extensive writing resume for Star Trek as well, primary with “Star Trek: Voyager,” where 14 of the 16 total episodes he had a primary writing credit came with Capt. Janeway and her valiant crew s …

The ongoing Star Trek series has also featured captains and ships from other spinoffs

7 Cameos We’d Like To See In ‘Star Trek 3’

William Shatner? Patrick Stewart? Connor Trinneer? Who should stop by the new movie?

The last two Star Trek films were given a direct sendoff by the mere presence of Leonard Nimoy, who played the character of Mr. Spock for nearly 50 years. But with his sad passing earlier this year — and reports that he was not going to pop up in this film anyway — fans are still hankering for a chance to see a familiar face from the past grace “Star Trek 3,” especially as it’s released in time for the 50th anniversary of the Trek franchise. So who should it be? Someone from the original series? Maybe someone from one of the spinoffs? Possibly a face from a fan series? Here …
